Default CSS problem with Overflow ? - SOLVED -

Hello my fellow talkphp members.

I have been working on a new theme for my wordpress blog.

And for some reason i get a margin on top of my page where it otherwise would not.

The thing is that this margin that seems to appear sometimes does not show itself on the "main" page.

It shows for example when you click on "Multi sida".

The WP install im developing on is just for dev purpose with
some non-essential info for fillout. And its swedish if it seems like jibberish :)

If any of you CSS and XHTML savy folks could just take a look and see if i made a misstake on the layout containers thats makes the CSS cause a margin on top of the page in some cases.

The link to the dev site is:
http://www.magnusbonnevier.se/wp_dev/

And a direct link to the CSS used:
http://www.magnusbonnevier.se/wp_dev...rame/style.css

I would appreciate all the help I received.

My guess is that the problem lies somewhere with the floating of elements inside ".wrapper" container and with the clearing of header and footer.

I just need a fresh pair of eyes take a look at this.

Thx in advance. :)

Firebug is showing your link tags within <body>. You have weird things going on.

What character encoding are you using to save the files? When I copy the source and save it to my local machine using UTF-8 (no bom) it doesn't have the margin at the top and all of the html tags are in the correct place in firebug.

Hi Eric.

Thx for the helping hand.

I am using UTF8 to my knowledge. I will have to check again.
And i am using Dreamweaver for Editing.

Had some problem in past that DW saved things like ASCI and UTF8 and other strange things were it would not alter files alltogether like the files were readonly when they were not.

Hm link tags in Body tag ? is that correct ?
Just so i did not missunderstood.

Could this be the result of something that happend when i tried to import some dummy post to the WP dev installation and the memory was exhausted for PHP ?

I will have to go throug the files again, strangly i have only had the margin problem with Safara, Chrome and Firefox 4.xx not in Opera 10.xx.

Anyway, if you think of anything else i could look into i would be thankfull.

I have resolved the issue.

It seems that the problem was that the files that showed strange behavior had been encoded with Unicode Signature "Bit Object Marker" and Unicode Normalization Form: C.

When i used only Encoding UTF8 without the abowe in Dreamweaver.
The behavior stopped. I am a happy camper now :)

This problem was driving me crazy :)

Further Info (2010-11-02):
On further investigation it seems it was only the Unicode Signature "Bit Object Marker" that screwed up things for me.

I removed it and everything behaves the way it should.

I was also having problems with overflow..
There were no problems with my script:
nav { overflow: right; }

But after reading this thread, I just changed my style.css file to UTF-8 and everything worked fine after that. Atleast, no problems with that overflow property... Thanks!
