Force Gmail Notifier to use old Gmail

1 Attachment(s)
Since the new Gmail came out, I've had nothing but nightmares with it. As I use the Gmail notifier, every time I go to my inbox it brings up the old version. Google should have allowed us to set the Gmail client to the old interface by default. Woes!

Anyway, I went ahead and edited the gnotify.exe file to load the old version by default. For anybody else unfortunate enough to be tearing their hair out.

Don't forget to back up the old one before you overwrite. Default path is: C:\Program Files\Google\Gmail Notifier on Windows.

How did you edit the exe?

Excellent!! Thanks indeed. However, can you please let me know how did you edit the .exe file? I tried editing by using "Editplus", but it crashed!
Thanks, Abbas

I'm actually new to gmail. Just started using it about 2 months ago so I can't tell the difference between what's new and what's old.

However, I really don't like their style at all...for example:

If I respond to someone, that response is appended to the email. So if I want to respond AGAIN, I ended up responding to myself sometimes because I am hitting reply on my own email. It's just an odd stucture that I'm not used to..

I've tried using greasemonkey with a custom firefox extension to change the layout but it kept crashing my firefox so I uninstalled it.

is there anyway to have the layout look just like Outlook?

For that you could aways use Outlook (oh the bad irony =P). Nah Hotmail or Live Mail is the most equal alternative to Outlook you can get, just set Gmail to redirect your mails to a hotmail :)

Yes it is very ironic!!!

I'm trying to consolidate all my emails. I'm sure like many here, over time you end up having, AOL, yahoo, google, your work email... etc...

It took me 3 months to get all my contacts to start sending me emails to gmail and going over my bills etc....

I figured gmail was a good choice since it seems everyone is going that route and google is doing well, as compared to yahoo who is constantly trying to find a buyer. I suppose hotmail will never go anywhere either but I just didn't feel like signing up for hotmail.

I like having everything browser based, so I don't even have outlook installed anymore..

If only we were allowed to choose different layouts for gmail I would be absolutely thrilled. Heck, I would even pay google if they would offer that option...

My company uses webmail and I LOVE the layout. Here's a screenshot....

It is possible to customize how gmail looks using Greasemonkey or certain firefox addons. I've never really looked into it much but here is a link with a few different custom themes to give you an idea of what you can do. http://mashable.com/2008/11/21/custo...theme-scripts/

I use new Gmail now :-) This was back when the new Gmail was buggy. I only just discovered that you can colour coordinate your tags. I love Gmail! :-)
