Default How much would you pay?

G'day guys,

I have recently completed a site for a client that is full of functionality. It was a favour for a family friend so I under-charged him.

Just wondering if you guys could share your suggestions of the value of this site price wise.

E.G. Is it worth $1000 or $5000 or whatever.

The site is Viper Martial Arts

The site design has been made from a template I got off Metamorphozis. I have placed the url to this site in the footer in recognition of their contribution of design.

Functionality of site:
  • Student Sign Up
  • Emailing
  • Forum
  • Photo Gallery
  • Google Maps
  • Online Catalogue
  • CMS (Content Management System) for administrator
  • CMS for Instructor
  • Designed images (programs page)
I have also done all the database design and implementation for the site. The CMS for Instructors allows them to upload lessons, newsletters etc. It also gives them authority to edit any blog / post or any photo that is posted within the photo gallery.
The Administrators CMS holds all the same as the Instructors plus additional functionalit of accepting the student as well as setting permissions throughout the site of who can have access to what.

I built this site from scratch (after receiving the design template) and I just can not evaluate what this site would be worth as I know I am a little bias to it.

Any feedback and "what would you pay for it" comments would be great.

Many thanks in advance.

It all depends on how long you work on the project for. If you created all custom work, then it would be more. If, on the other hand, you just installed an off the shelf CMS, and used not-so-custom script, then it would be a lot less.

It even comes down to how good of a developer you are. If you do not have much work under your belt, then you cannot charge the same as someone who is much better than you and has been doing it for a lot longer (well, you can but it would be dishonest).

If you really want to get down to it, you can even charge more based on complexity of work (for instance, a forum is much more complex than a login form). Depending on what I am doing, I charge anywhere from $20/hr (very basic) to $45/hr (very advanced). Without knowing exactly what you did, I cannot say how much it is worth.

If I were to build it to specs (all custom), it would be somewhere around $4,500. But as I said, this is dependent on the work done. I would come to a price after getting every detail about what is needed from the client. The largest chunk would be for the CMS (almost half the estimated project cost in this instance) as most of the work will go into that.
