New gaming site (Crysis)
I've been working on this site with a few other people, my coding knowledge is limited to xhtml/css so most of the heavy coding (what little there is of it) wasn't done by me. I did however design the site so feedback on that would be great too.
As you can tell by clicking around it's obviously not completed yet heh.
On that note I was also wondering if there are any gamers here who might be interested in helping with the sites development, php/mysql wise. That would certainly be appreciated.
Otherwise, thoughts on the site?
The CSS needs to be reevaluated. A sadly common misconception about CSS is that div tags are used as the replacement for tables from days past. I'd recommend picking up the book Transcendent CSS.
I can only really comment on the design because as you say, the coding side of things isn't actually finished yet.
Gaming designs are okay when thought of collectively - their designs are acceptable for gamers, but their usability is definitely lacking in many areas because of the graphic designers' fascination with graphic-heavy websites. Individually I feel many of them share all the same characteristics and so it's not really any different in that sense. I'd much rather a designer that took a risk with their designs based on the principles of usability and the psychology that should be taken into consideration - such as end-users automatically expecting the search box to be in the top right corner, and navigation down the left-hand side.
With that said, however, the XHTML coding is tableless and so kudos for that. It's some good stuff! Quite stereotypical of me, but I would have presumed a gaming website to have been using tables for their layouts. Don't get me wrong though, tables are vital in the development world - for tabular data. Though like Rizza said, DIVs are not the one and only elements in XHTML - albeit HTML 5 will bring a lot more to the table in that sense for actually describing sections.
