I changed my bday to July 1st 1978 to see what would happen.
The result is that upon logging in, it now shows June 31st 1978.

your php.ini could have upload limit...
your php.ini could have upload limit restrictions, I don't know what the default setting is. Try uploading a small MP3 file like 100k and see if that works. if it does, then you know it's your upload...

memory management is all done by PHP on the back...

users don't have any control over memory management other than cleraring out variables and objects...
