I think they're just prolonging the inevitable that another well designed and well coded forum software is going to come along and wipe them off the scene.

Yeh it's only a matter of time tbh. They've had their go at it, they had a good run but it's time to move over :)

That's the thinking yes. I just think it's dated. It's time for something bigger and better to take its place. Whether that happens or not we'll have to wait and see.

Do you know how extensive jelsoft is?
Do you realize how extensive such a forum software would have to be in order to be able to be called a better forum than vBulletin??
And do you realize how much time that would take?
And as I see it, I haven't seen any other in vBulletin's leaugue.
IPB sucks.
phpBB, LOL.
And all the other myBB and all those, really have no place in this world.
But sure, some time, vBulletin will probably get a good competition software against them. But I just don't see it happen in our lifetime.
Maybe you can code a forum better than vBulletin? ;)
So compete with vB then :)

Lol Tanax, yes I am aware of all them points. I am also aware of how dated vBulletin is. With a good team of developers and a good plan, I see no reason why a competitor couldn't potentially overtake or at least come close to vBulletin.
Don't get me wrong, this wouldn't happen over night, you're probably looking at 2-5 years development, but with something so popular as Forum software, the market is plenty big enough.
I'd personally love to have a shot at it. I know if I had the time and a team that I could trust, I would definitely put myself to it.

Actually, i think a lot of forum software companys are getting scared at the fact that PHPBB3 is free and is becoming to have the same functionality as the paid ones. I think that's there biggest worry, you can mock PHPBB all you like but it's used in some extensivley large forums, even Gaia which has over 16 million posts uses PHPBB.

I am new to this site, but i am going to say good job because everyone else is lol, plus i like the sites style anyway.
I was on a team that was writing a new forums, but they gave up half way through. Was a shame i was looking forward to see the final results lol
I think its a great idea to get new forum software out there. It keeps the internet alive i think.

I like this site, but I think you should enlarge the main site width.

Increase the width even more? It was only about 800px when we got it, we've extended it to ~1,000px.

If it's extended it'd be too fluid

I think it would be good. But if you don't like a fluid style, no problem!

On the topic of the width, I think the current size is perfect. It looks great on widescreen monitors as well as smaller ones. :) I think fluid sites can get a little wide, especially since a lot of people have such large monitors these days.
My two cents.

I'm right with you on that one, Gurnk. I really dislike sites that stretch to the very corners of the browser.

I have another suggestion, two actually.
The first one is maybe adding the link tree to that top glass/plastic bar on the top, under that navigation. That would save a little space in the main content area, and also make use of that bar. If you do decide to put it up there, I would not keep it at 100% black, but a lighter gray.
My second suggestion is more of a request. Is it possible to put the smilies on the quick reply? Since its WYSIWYG, If you type the shortcuts in, you can't see them, and they don't work.
Thanks!
