Sherri Shepherd and Grey Anatomy Ellen Pompeo Bump Heads Over Race Issues on The View
Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey) appeared on The View this week; while the ladies congratulated her on the success of Grey's Anatomy, there wasn't much spoiler chat, or setting up sneak peek clips. Instead, Ellen wanted to get her two cents in on the Hot Topics the hostesses discussed at the top of the show.
First, Whoopi and Sherri were discussing a recent news story about a mother who was injecting her eight-year-old daughter with Botox for beauty pageants. (Talk about a crazy storyline straight out of Grey's!) Ellen brought her up again once she got to the stage, looked the camera straight on, and said to Whoopi in quite the serious tone, "I'm sorry to interrupt you, but can I say to that mother: you do not deserve to have a child, number one. Yes, I said it. I'll say it again. And who is the doctor?!"
As it turns out, the mother was giving the injections to the little girl herself and refused to admit where she got the Botox. "And if the pharmaceutical industry wasn't so loose with these drugs.," Ellen started before Whoopi steered her back to talking about Grey's Anatomy. Phew! Good move, Whoopi. Things were getting a michael kors factory outlet little hairy, even if we tend to agree.
Next, the ladies asked Ellen if the show was getting any backlash since Meredith and Derek were trying to michael kors handbags outlet adopt "a baby of color," as Whoopi joked.
"Well, no one can say anything to me because I had a baby of color!" Ellen fired back in her best attempt to match Whoopi's michael kors online outlet sassy tone. Ellen's hubby Chris Ivery is black, and they have a baby, Stella Luna, together; when asked if they received any backlash personally, she replied, "I don't but I'm in a different situation."
The Grey's actress added to the race issue (treading very carefully), "I don't mean to misstep or say anything to offend michael kors outlet store anyone, but I do think that the separation [of race recognition] doesn't get us any closer to anything. I do think there once was a time we needed NAACP Awards - and I'm not trying to devalue those at all, and it's not my experience - but I just feel like we need to have a People Awards."
At this point, Sherri interrupted and insisted that we do need things like the NAACP awards and the distinction of historically black colleges versus "white colleges," michael kors outlet to which Ellen firmly responded, "Well, we need to get to a place where we don't."
Jeez. Who knew Ellen was such a spitfire on Hot Topics? Forget the Grey's interview, we want her back on the show as a guest host! (Plus, she was wearing a slammin' gray racer-back Michael Kors jumpsuit, and we'd love Chenxm2804 to see michael kors coupon code the other killer outfits she'd show off for The View.)
