Hellow!
Hello, my name is Simon and I live in Denmark, I'm only 14 years old - but I've been doing PHP since I was 9 years old (that's at least when I managed to make my first login system, after realising that I had to store informations somewhere. Damn those readme files doesn't give enough infoz! :D)
Since then I've casually done some PHP and Webdesigns, never really went hardcore - but I really wanna improve those skills which I taught myself from very young, expanding my mind with new ways of seeing things etc. :) Also, I love just doing stuff - put in some jQuery from exactly what I imagined, then fuck if I'm gonna use all day on it - a good result takes it time, and if it's exactly what I imagined, it's usually the time worth. I've during the time done too many websites and small scripts for people that I can't even remember it all. Well, hopefully see you all laters! |

If you're starting out this young, you're going to be one crazy programmer by the time you're in your 20 if not sooner... |
Haha, yeah. But I'm kinda stuck now. I have some problems getting the idea about OOP, which is kinda the next step. :(

Welcome to the community, my friend! It is really pleasing to see such a thorough introduction.
I was into hardware and networking when I was 14. I then realised I knew them inside-out and moved onto programming at about the age of 19 or so. Like you I made some random scripts. I was never that good, and then at around the age of 21, KarlP (On TalkPHP) taught me more PHP. I began learning Perl because I couldn't grasp PHP, after many years of programming in VB at college. The reason I began with Perl is because there was a fantastic tutorial to follow on Perl. Karl said it would be fine to learn that, and then try and port over the knowledge to PHP. I understood PHP much better once I had a solid understanding of Perl. I then decided to make some basic scripts in PHP, and Karl helped me build those. Ever since then I've been programming more and more. OOP was a big step, as it seems to be with you, but eventually I got there! It just takes some time and dedication, and also having somebody -- or in this case with the forum, many people to ask for help and direction. It is invaluable having a nice, friendly, humble PHP community to help you along with things :-) The good thing about TalkPHP is we appear to have a lot of patience with all skill levels. I've tried asking for help in PHP rooms on IRC, and nobody really seems overly nice and welcoming. That's why I tried to make TalkPHP as nice as possible. I concentrated on building a nice community. I don't mind how big or small we are, it is the camaraderie I care the most for. Life story over :-) Welcome! I hope you become part of the TalkPHP family! |

Thanks Wild and Code!
This community doesn't own an IRC channel, does it? :) That would be pretty cool, instant answers while stuck. :D I'm sure that one could be pretty good, even though I've have the same experince with other IRC channels Wild. |
