My apologies if you misinterpreted the message as that of a "crying little girl" since that was not the intention. I will not, however, explain myself here.
P.S. Thanks for the comment on my blog. I wish people would be as resourceful in spreading their wings when they have something nice to say, as when they have something nasty.

Wow I love the design of that site...
So I read Sal's note, I guess the major issue is that the owner isn't around. Everyone else does all the work...

I love your username TC. Almost sounds like you have some unresolved anger in your own life. I must say though, I've never seen someone call anther a hermaphrodite as a form of unrelated insult....
fuck wad on the other hand is not original at all.

Yes thats a pitfall, but it also gives the position of others taking some sort of ownership and make the site run, we had similar issue at ClanTemplates which I've managed to sort of keep running for way over a year now. It also shows alot of trust to the owner that someone managed to keep it all going, in this case its Salathe, Vizon and whoevers staff on TF, but its not an execuse to have an inactive owner ofcourse ;)

I assume that the mods on the site are volunteers?
Why not start your own site and bring all the members with you if the owner isn't around?
Why give the owner all the cash from the ads while you do all the work?

@VI, With regards to TC, I believe the more usual term would be OP (Original Poster) here. I know who the OP is (they didn't even use a proxy for anonymity) but what was said are only words, and words made in haste and anger. Chances are they feel no ill-intent towards me now.
@allworknoplay, the design is like Marmite (a yeast extract spread) in that people seem to either love it or hate it. I'm happy that you like it. I originally really didn't like it though as time has gone on, it feels like home. Yes the moderators are volunteers. There have been a couple of attempts in the past to sprout offshoots (there's a long history of dissent) from the community but nothing ever gained a strong foothold, those sites are long dead. I'd never (never say never) consider moving all of the members to a new website. That's just plain wrong. About the ads, I really doubt they're earning anything much at all; in all probability not even covering basic running costs. But I don't have any figures.
@Kalle, I didn't know you were admin on CT. Then again, I'm not even sure if I have a membership there. It's good to see that a site can skip along without an owner, as I'm sure TalkFreelance will. Perhaps it is time to take a tighter hold on the reins and actually step up, make changes (nothing huge) and get things done.

I agree with Salathe, I know what OP means, but TC is a new one. I guess I'll have to try to remember that one.
I've never been to TF, today was my first and the design is really nice. I am kinda anal when it comes to site designs. When a color isn't #EEEEEE but instead #E0E0E0, I can see the difference and I have to fix it. It's a little bit of OCD too.
But anyways, yes, whoever designed it, did a TERRIFIC job and I definitely appreciate it. Do you know who designed it?
I would love to pickup new design tricks, in fact, who designed this website? (TalkPHP) as I like the design as well...
I think all you guys have too much talent to not run your own site. I guess it might be too much work to start from scratch, and bring over new members...that I can understand.
I hate knowing that owners don't have the same passion for their own websites....it's just a shame...

Why start a new site, just to "get rid of the inactive owner"? I think its even more pointless and alot more destructive to create a new community on that matter if you can use the already built one.
And yes staff are volunteers, on TFL theres a few to moderate and such, but take CT for example where we have many staff members making free high quality gaming templates, logos and all that for clans to use.

Oh well I've been for a few years now. Even though it havn't always been easy to maintain the site with limited resources, it seems to have went through and still is running, but building a community with alot of lost activity up from the ground is hard when there aren't many to help, but thankful there seems to have been some people who wants to help the community to try make it function. But if CT can, why wouldn't TFL be able to :) ?
Ps, re: the TFL design, the design is nice and all, except for that damn top bar, that looks really weird =)

Oh I definitley understand that, but from what I got, and I could be wrong, is that Salathe closed the form down right? Can people still chat or not? If not, then what difference is it between closing it down with no other place to go, or creating a new place where owners and the people who run the show have passion?
From what I read, Salathe closed it down at some point and the owner is so far removed from the site that he probably doesn't even know that it was down unless someone emailed him...

I opened it back up; it was unfair for the community to suffer just to make a point to the owner.

How long has the owner been away? Maybe s/he is ill and no one knows it?
An online friend of mine had a site she'd ran for years. The site had an active community going on both the forum and the blog. Over a two year period my friend began to spend less and less time at her site.
I noticed she'd been away much longer than usual. I asked her if everything was OK, and it turns out, it wasn't. She had cervical cancer. She went in for an operation and the doctor botched things up. She died from complications shortly afterward.
No one even knew until her daughter sent out an email to all of her mom's friends to let them know she'd passed away.
