$lurk = false;
Greetings all.
I'm an intermediate level PHP programmer who's been hanging around the fringes of the site for awhile now. Read: lurking. I came from Pixel2Life to read a few tutorials several months ago, don't remember which specifically, but since then I've been routinely impressed with the knowledge base of the community.
So, I figured I might as well sign up. I could use a place to discuss PHP things at, away from other languages. Mostly because of the dumb "competition" that people have between languages. Some are bad, others are dead, and most are decent. I pick PHP over CGI binaries and ASP any day.
As I said, I'm an intermediate level PHP programmer. I started sometime two and a half years ago and programmed infrequently during the first year or so. From there on out I became more interested and serious about it, I'm a long time hobbyist (self) web designer, and so I got into programming with PHP in earnest. I'm proud to say that in the past fourteen months, I've worked roughly ten of those under four consecutive contracts to a Silicon Valley startup. Meanwhile I've been taking a PHP/MySQL certification course at O'Reilly's "School of Tech", in which some of the parts of are still being authored.

Hi Robert, firstly let me welcome you to TalkPHP after your period of lurking. Secondly, thanks for the longer introduction - it's always nice to get a bit of background on new faces.

Thanks Salathe, I like having some background information on folks too, so I don't mind giving it.

Sounds like you got yourself well set-up for the future in the past 14 months! I suppose we should be really grateful that you've graced us with your presence, and therefore get your feet under the table, and welcome to the community ! Also, like Salathe, I always love a verbose introduction.

I was very fortunate indeed. Even though most the benefit was abstract. (Resume material and direct work experience.)

PFFT! I was the only web designer and the second PHP programmer. Just a contractor taking the fumbling interface design put together by a bunch of engineers and turning it into something nicer. My work was in both PHP and ANSI C CGI binaries, as the interface to our product uses both. "Graced you with my presence"... heh. I'm only intermediate in skill, and not so good as you, Karl, or Salathe.

Thanks, I have trouble not writing them. I like it when they're appreciated.

Hey Robert and welcome to TalkPHP. I saw your hash() algorithm info script in the script giveaway section, it looks good and has been useful for me already =)

Hey Kalle, thanks for the welcome and the note. I'm glad it's helpful to someone other than me. Keep an eye out for the next version, "PHL 1.0", which is coming soon--it's an object oriented version that you can integrate into your install script.
No documentation yet though, too busy optimizing and such.

And I just realized that I overlooked Adam. Sorry about that. Thanks for the welcome, Adam.

I do? In what way, pray tell? I certainly don't share an ounce of resemblance with your avatar, but I doubt that you do either.
(I'm feeling dreadfully un-serious tonight.)
