So I've been here a little while now, and I always see people banging on about how good a framework is, and how it saves them time. So off I trundle and take a look at what they are banging on about. Then I return with the same question as always - "What's the point?". I just can't figure out what the point of using a framework is. The ones I have checked out (major players in the PHP framework area) have seemed pointless to me. They don't do what I would expect them to do, and they have limited documentation. To be honest, I don't even fully understand the M-V-C concept because the documentation provided is so bad......

Until last night! Last night I stumbled across a framework called CodeIgniter (I'm sure all of you have already heard of this), and I fell in love. I mean truly in love. In love as in I could leave my fiance for CodeIgni.... well that's beyond the point

Last night I discovered the true meaning of using a framework, and also discovered a one that wants to help me, not make things harder. I've never used a framework before (mainly because they all looked rubbish to me), but I plan to write my next project using CodeIgniter. I'm so excited!

Great to see that you've found a new toy to play with! Do let us know what you create with it. What are the reasons why you have taken an immediate shine to CI that the other frameworks lacked?

It's hard to put my finger on it. I think mainly the documentation, it has been written in a way that I understand. Maybe I didn't give the other frameworks enough of a chance, but before CI I couldn't see the point. Maybe they weren't explaining it well enough.

With CI for some reason I can see the whole point behind using a framework.

Absolutely! There's no big mystery with frameworks, they're just there to make life easier. If one doesn't, find another one to use.
