I've had a play with it today and it does seem to give me quite relevant results, unlike Yahoo, and very much unlike the old MSN Live which gave me some bizarre results. It also appears to be rather intelligent as well, instead of just ordering by popularity.
I always thought that Google's search engine was one product you could never really compete with, but perhaps there is a gap there which will allow Bing, or even somebody else, to overtake Google...

When I think of what Live used to be and what Bing is I *am* impressed but when I compare it to Google I see a potential threat but one that Google could easily squash.
I agree. Google are controlling too much of the internet at the moment.
I do think we need to return to some kind of equilibrium (not the film!), otherwise they could, in actuality, begin to restrict that data. Just like they did by putting an end to their SOAP API! If Bing had (or has) an API to tie in with such as Yahoo's, then that would really be a big selling point for me.
I really don't know why Google doesn't allow us to parse their search results. It's as if they're saying, once it's in our database, it's our data and you may use it with restrictions applied.
Edit: Bing really does have an API! And it looks really good. I've uploaded an example of the XML document it gives you for the search term php.

We all know MS would never open themselves up like this if it weren't for Google. And now that they have, perhaps Google will also.
I use gmail only because it's free, but I personally hate the way it works. It's very confusing and the layout is one of the worse I've ever seen. Even with using greasemonkey to fix the layout....
I can't say I dislike Google but their control is based off the lack of good solutions. Bing for right now looks good! I concede that it does and best of all it has what is really need to compete with Google. Money. Google has money enough for R&D and other search engines did not. Microsoft certainly has money to pour into R&D and a new name which is untarnished ( As with live ) It's a clean canvas and I hope they paint a masterpiece.
I found that Live search gave me good results, just as Google did, and now Bing does the same thing. But I got more pages and sites to the top of Live (and now Bing) than for Google. Bing has some nice features missing from Live. It doesn't need to beat Google, it merely needs to make MS a profit, and I think it will. It will probably make a small dent in Google, but that could double the profit MS make compared to Live, because even a small dent represents a huge number of users.
One thing I liked about Live and now Bing, is that fewer people use their PPC adverts, so it costs a lot less to get to the top of the list! And you might even be the only one listed in the PPC list for Bing, thus getting a larger share of the Bing users coming to you than the Google users (although Google will probably provide more visitors overall).

Yea this search engine sounds good now because it is really unknown, but the minute it gets anywhere near the size that google or yahoo search is that is when companies show their true colors. then it will probably try to be a big search engine clone it almost always happens that way.
It's not an unknown, it is Microsoft's search engine with a new face, a new url and new features. Try entering www.live.com, the old MS search url, or www.msnsearch.com, the even older one. Or selecting Live search from Internet Explorer's search box (where it will be the default on new downloads).
