So seriously, there has been an onslaught of spam lately.

Can we have some kind of system setup so that when someone registers, they have to access their email to click on a link and activate their account before they post?

They already have to. I'm trying out other mods, but none yet seem to give us what we want.

Sorry, I guess I did that too when I signed up, just can't remember...

I wonder what other boards do?

At work we ban most forign IP ranges, but our business is exclusively American. I would ban the major countries these attacks are coming from if we don't already have users from there.

I have an idea that may help. What would you think about making it so a new member has to use a captcha for their first 10 posts or so. Maybe even for all of their posts until it has been verified somehow that they are a real person and not some bot. Yes it would be somewhat annoying to new members but if it helps to reduce spam then I think everyone would be ok with it. This is my first post and I would rather have to go through some 'initiation' like that then see a great looking page be overrun with spam. :)
