Default Hey Village Idiot....

Read your tutorial on methods and trusting data from inputs...
I liked your opinions...

Do you still recommend this book since it is 5 years old now?

Advanced PHP Programming by George Schlossnagle.

Do you have anymore recent books within the last 2 years that
may be just as good?

I'd hate to read something that old with the author using techniques or functions that are either deprecated or just about to be so I want to make sure that I am investing my time in something that is still going to be useful....

Thanks!

The book covers more programming concepts than language specifics IIRC (I will check it again when I get home), so it is not outdated or depreciated. There haven't been too many massive changes to PHP since version 5 came out anyways.

As for other books, that is one of the only books I have read on PHP, I get almost everything online. I haven't actually programmed anything (outside of help stuff) in PHP for months now either.

Thanks VI,

If it's mainly concepts, I think that's very valuable so I'll go ahead and order it....

I think a few people on this forum have this book, myself included .
Its one of my numerous reference books nowadays.

It covers alot of other advanced topics e.g. caching, profiling, performance, unit testing, web services, C Extensions and PHP internals ... the list goes on.

I recommend it.

Thanks Sketch,

On Amazon, it says (developer's library), do you know if there's 2 versions of this book or something? Why would they go out of their way to call it that?

Just want to make sure I am getting the right one if there's multiple versions....

It seems to be the same, the cover is the same and the ISBN is the same.
