I must admit that I've never been a fan of trying to resolve browser on the backend part as it can be cloaked and faked way too easily.

After reading your article, then I honestly don't know about that phpbrwoscap, get_browser() is most likely to be faster as its written in C, as for the problems that it may give incorrect results is one I don't get as we havn't got any reports on that at the php.net bug tracker anytime I can remember of (past year). The question about browscap being PHP_INI_SYSTEM can be suggested in a Feature/Change Request report on bugs.php.net aswell.

As for the article, it looks goods :)
