Which type of layout do you prefer?

Yes, i wanted to know what type of design/layout people like on the web, do you like, simplistic, really only a bit of CSS and XHTML and no images, the golden middle way with a bit of everything, totally flashy with lots of images and colours?

Stuff like SmartyPig®: Simple. Smart. Savings.®

What if it then should be a tool from which you could monitor your server? :)
I'm working on my summer project, which is a "simple" yet powerful server monitor, and i have no what it should look like :)

simple is such a hard thing to do... I wish I could do it :/ good luck.

SpYkE112 06-09-2008 07:57 AM

Exactly, and if i make it simple, it looks really unprofessional :/

Aaron 06-09-2008 04:08 PM

You serious? Complex designs only get in the way of the content. People don't come to your site to marvel at your design skills, so that only leaves...

Enfernikus 06-09-2008 04:13 PM

Content is King

SpYkE112 06-09-2008 04:25 PM

True, but if you wan't a sort of business look, i think it is best to keep it flashy yet simple, but i haven't got any ideas :S

Aaron 06-09-2008 04:33 PM

As long as you don't have Flash, and don't go ape shit on the images, then we will have nothing to complain about.

SpYkE112 06-09-2008 04:37 PM

Well, sounds like i have to sit down tommorrow and stir some sort of design out of the sleeve :D

Aaron 06-09-2008 04:46 PM

Photoshop helps :/

SpYkE112 06-09-2008 04:58 PM

Yes, but CSS helps alot too :P

Aaron 06-09-2008 05:00 PM

>.< My past two sites (actually, they're just versions of my portfolio) are just CSS. CSS doesn't help so much, man. I miss my gradients and rounded corners.

I also miss my Photoshop :(

SpYkE112 06-09-2008 05:04 PM

Rounded coners will be available in CSS3 :D
And gradients can be done using CSS as far as i remember... I think Kalle showed that to me once :)

Aaron 06-09-2008 05:06 PM

No rounded corners > Unsemantic Markup

and that CSS3 is still in development as far as I'm concerned. 60% of the population still use IE6.
