Internet Explorer 8 in Action

I've just spent some time playing about with IE8 Beta 1 and have a few comments on it :-)

1) The 'beta' tag is over-rated - it's nowhere near ready for a 'beta' tag.

2) It's very resource hungry - it was eating my CPU (AMD 64bit 2.2ghz) like crazy

3) (a follow on from point number 1) It crashes - a lot. 2 or 3 crashes per page load was the norm during my tests.

I know that it's beta software and supposed to be used by developers/designers to checkout the new rendering engine but it was completely un-usable for me. I've rolled back to IE7 now mainly so I can use the internet again :-D

And now on to the screenshots...

I would have taken some more but was ready to scream at this point :-(

Anyone else tested IE8 yet and what where your experiances like? Hopefully not as bad as mine :-)

Another version of IE... ...another headache for designers.

Funny enough I've had some bad experience with the new Firefox it constantly crashed so I reinstalled and it helped a bit...

Personally I don't like IE very much simply because of the crap I have to put up with when doing CSS work.

IE8's default renderer is its standards compliant one (hence the odd screenshots). Microsoft are planning to make IE8 a lot more standards compliant so it should make life much easier for you designers out there :-)

IE 8 should just use the gecko rendering engine. Heck, I wouldnt are if MS would buy it, as long as we don't have another standard to work to.

I don't install viruses on my computer, I don't have IE 7 and I wont have IE 8. (Note: MS software is not a virus, just IE)

This beta is for web developers, se we can see how IE8 handles CSS 2.1, Javascript etc and so we can test new features like Activities and WebSlices. It's nowhere near finished and it's not meant to be used by non web developers.
