Default Internet Explorer 6

Hey guys,

First of all, doom IE for LIFE. I seriously hate it and I think it is deprecated.

BUT a lot of people still use it so here we go. Is there, in any sad way, a method to use IE6, IE7 and Firefox on the same machine. IE7/IE6 AND Firefox arn't a problem, but IE6 AND IE7 is not possible, for as far as I know. Installing a virtual server on the other hand is somewhat stupid.

Anyone got some time to shed some light on this?

Mark

I actually installed a seperate virtual machine to do this in the recent past, but yeah it is a pretty stupid approach to doing it I guess, now the easier method is using another computer I have with IE6 on it still instead..
BUT I know there are ways to emulate all the way down to ie4, I'm not quite sure of the name of what you're looking for, but I've given up a few times and just found it easier to use 2 seperate boxes, lol.. but i know for a fact there is a way to emulate older ie's.

There's a similar thread on a different forum. I posted this reply:

I have portable versions of Internet Explorer (I don't think this is illegal, i downloaded them from an old article which said to use them to validate coding):

IE6: RapidShare: 1-Click Webhosting
IE7: RapidShare: 1-Click Webhosting

I have virus checked them and everything, but feel free to check them yourself. They work fine for me, too.

If you need them on a different host, please tell me.

Gareth

you can also download ie7 and then another browser such as Maxthon cause Maxthon just uses ie6 rendering engine. so it would be the same thing as well.

Thanks you guys. I'm gonna test the IE6 from Rapidshare and I'll let you know.

@ Obolus, awesome! Thanks.

Crap, my website doesn't seem to fully function in IE6 (according to the tool obolus provided) which is a shame. Downloading the IE6 from Rapidshare didn't work either. I couldn't initialize it since I am running Vista I guess. It immediately crashed.

Lame, I was waiting for someone else to test it.. lol..

I will try finding a portable version of ie6 for you/us, since I'd say that's probably the answer, didn't really think of that :P

Hi. My frst post so hi to everyone. To answer the original poster's question, you can indeed install multiple version of IE on the same machine :

Install multiple versions of IE on your PC | TredoSoft

i haven't tried it yet but it looks like a good solution. Try it and let us no if it works for you.

Regards,

AppleMacGuy.

Do not download the binaries for IE6 or IE7, I've experinced that both would appear just the same on code that should look different in IE6 and IE7 and therefore it cannot be trusted to do it like that.

Use the virtual PC images supplied by Micrsoft is the only "secure" way to do it =)

This one from what I have used seems to be accurate. I'd recommend this as well.

I hate apple, but I like to take up a discussion about it.

I will try the link provided AppleMacGuy. (Install multiple versions of IE on your PC | TredoSoft) As long as it isn't a (mac)BoobyTrap!
