Firefox and Memory Usage ( Leaks? )
![]() Is it me, or does Firefox take up a bit of memory. :P |
Firefox takes an average of 101MB with 76.8MB of that being the space for the cache.
I fail to see how you, and others, get such high numbers. Perhaps I'm just cautious, or a neat freak, but I refuse to have as many windows and tabs as I have fingers and toes. (I prefer bookmarks so I can come back.) |

The others I have are Photoshop, Zend Studio, and SmartFTP |
Odd. What's your cache size set to, then?
50MB default.
Wow, that shouldn't make much of a footprint in memory. Got a lot of plugins maybe?
Yes, I was going to ask about plugins. Although I have a fair few and my firefox.exe takes up 80,000K, a quarter of yours!
Firebug, Zend Studio Toolbar, and Talkback
Maybe Zend Studio's plugin has a link to Zend Studio's memory space. Other than that I have no clue. I assume you have the latest version of firefox?

Maybe FireFox's code has gone down the pan.
I have the latest version and I am using 80,000k with two tabs open. That normal and runs fast because I have a 3gigs of memory. I dont know what is taking all that memory up, try reinstalling.
I have a friend whose FF was taking 700MB out of the 2GB available. It's not bad management memory, since it doesn't take up that much usually (tops 100MB).
Try a few things
Firebug will by default use up memory to log all network requests (this is already being addressed in Firebug 1.1/1.2). So I'd try browsing with Firebug disabled (disable it from the extensions manager).
Also - try out Firefox 3 Beta 2 (Firebug 1.1b10 works with it) - memory footprint has been a big focus for this release. |
Apparently everything gets worse in FireFox 3 ;)
