I'm on Ubuntu!

Well I've taken the plunge into an all Linux world (albeight..it's ubuntu) it's actually quite a nice enviroment, setting up a LAMP was easy enough and with the installation of WINE everything is a might fine. my only misgrievance is I didn't get to transfer my 168gigs of music.

I prefer Kubuntu myself. Love KDE.

Did you get rid of Windows or are you using a dual-boot system?
Because Ubuntu comes with some NTFS stuff that lets you read and write to NTFS (Windows) partitions. If that is the case, you don't need to transfer your music.. you can play it directly from the Windows partition.

I tried Ubuntu on my laptop a few weeks back when I managed to kill Vista. Install went smoothly but it turns out that it doesn't support my wireless card. Did some searching and found various forum posts talking about making your own driver wrapper or some such - at that point I promptly gave up and just reinstalled Vista :-)

Yes Alan, driver support is still a problem in Linux. Sometimes the community itself ports the drivers, but the truth is that the equipment manafacturers are the ones that should be supplying linux versions of their drivers.

Yeah I'm on Ubuntu and duel boot with Vista. It's pretty good, it's pretty quick compared to Vista and uses less memory. I've installed Compiz Fusion so I got all the wiked effects :-D

I have Zend Studio for Eclipse as my IDE for coding, though I'm not lovin' it, but only because I'm so used to Dreamweaver. I'll probably put LAMP on it soon. I tried to put WINE on it but it was too confusing.

So... so far it's mainly used just for the hell of it, don't know if I'll even find any REAL use for it anytime soon. I still recommend it though.

putting wine is actually pretty easy with the newest version

sudo apt-get install wine

and I use it as my main OS, since vista doesn't exists on my system anymore.
