Default Certifications

I am looking forward to web development certifications. I am only aware about Zend certification for PHP but I want to do more. Please link me, if possible.

The only PHP certification I know of is the Zend Certification. You could also do the MySQL certification: MySQL AB :: MySQL Certifications

I think that generally depends on the field. For example, in the Microsoft world, everyone cares about Microsoft certifications.

As for the PHP world, if you are a freelancer then I would definately recommend taking the Zend exam if you can - it will help seperate you from the thousands of other freelance PHP developers out there and shows potential clients that you actually have some willingness to learn and the drive to progress. It also shows that you are not afraid of a challange which is what I look for in developers

I can honestly say that if I was hiring a PHP developer, and had two candidates, both of equal calliber, I would hire the one with the Zend Certification.

O'Reilly has 2 parts of their PHP/MySQL certification online, though I'm sure it's nowhere near Zend's quality. Courses and Certificates -- O'Reilly School of Technology

I'm looking to become Zend certified. Your work and the ability to deliver is what really counts, but I think a Zend certification will go nice on my resume and on my portfolio site.

A certification in the field of programming is more important than your college degree (of course, it now depends on the level of certification). You may have gone to some great schools, but it really doesn't help at a job interview if you know nothing about programming.

Another choice is Brainbench.

That's a lie as many others have already said. Certification proves that you know your stuff. Everyone cares that you know what you are doing.

It can work both ways unfortunately, while certification can prove that you know your stuff, it can also prove that you can memorize a book

Thankfully, the Zend Certification for PHP5 requires that you have some practical knowledge of PHP rather than just memorizing a book in order to pass it.
