How can you do more than one lang?
My god, the syntax is MURDER.
Javascript syntax is like a dead rabbit to me after learning PHP. The variables constantly lose me, and the string concatenation to use them is even worse. NOT TO MENTION that most of the JS basics are PHP basics... Learning javascript is getting plopped down and told to understand the object orientedness... in PHP that is like the hardest thing... <angry> Okay, now that my rant is over, I feel much better. How do you cope with working with more than one language? |
Lots and I mean LOTS of practice, even if you don't have work make a script for the hell of it to keep skills sharp (I constantly developed, scrap and redevelop a CMS using javascript, php, etc)

Trial and error, you will eventually be able to do as many as you know separate. When I began PHP I would find myself coding it as I would have in C++. It just stopped after time.

heheh...
I have just looked into PHP OOP, and for some reason it looks a lot like Javascript. Talk about making life easier xD |
Javascript and PHP both have a C style syntax.

Maybe I'm just crazy. The one thing I find is that there is "switch time" my brain requires before I remember, "Hey this is PHP..." and I'm back to coding normally. Because all three languages are very different--I use Object Pascal (3 variants), C# (less, but handy), and PHP--I can't get around the syntactic and methodology differences without that time. Soon as I get that "Oh yeah" message I'm fine though. :-D 8-) |
I'm currently into C++, Java, Python, PHP, Pascal

It can be a pain learning / using more than one programming language, but as others have said, practice practice practice :-)
The more you use them, you easier it will become - you'll eventually find yourself just swapping from one to the other without noticing. Alan. |

You all try and keep stuff straight between PHP and COBOL! :-P COBOL is easy to learn, but I REALLY miss a lot of things from the other languages I work in when I am writing COBOL. Not to mention this little 64 character line limit for code... I guess I should go over to one of the sections where the chosen editor is being discussed and add vi. :-D |
