TU24 - Impact on Earth.
Some Meteorite supposedly is going to hit Earth and cause massive devastation upon us all. Meh, it's the size of the Sears Tower.
My opinion is well, I don't care, if it hits, it hits, though I won't just be waiting to die, I'll be hiding underground with my laptop, coding(lol), and eating beans on a stick. If it doesn't hit then well all of the idiots could stop badgering the idea and go back to living some what of a Normal life, but with insanity. Heres the Wiki page for it: 2007 TU24 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Heres what the Sears tower looks like: ![]() Heres an example on how it will hit, considering its a dot and it ALMOST touches surface of Earths dot, oh how I love NASA and their caveman ways. JPL Small-Body Database Browser So here it is, it's a dot that scares them all, the one dot to hit our Earth dot, and such and such... Bleh.. If it has a negative charge they said it'll create some field around it and eff up everything around the moon and earth. Bleh, discuss this Cosmic Bullshit. Sincerely, James9Fx1 |
It's all rubbish. I despise those morons that launch this type of information, and I despise the people who listen to them without even putting their brains together and think for a minute.

Aside from the crude points made in the last post, and the stories weaved in the first, I think this is an interesting subject. From the references provided so far, other than Orc's initial commments, the story seems to be that this asteroid will pass "close" by earth and be visible with "normal" telescopes (ie, not just those huge things on tops of mountains).
On a more personal note, which you're totally free to disagree with, can you perhaps tone down the vulgarities in your posting xenon? If you don't believe, agree or whatever with things then that's a fine standpoint to take. Just don't be f'ing and blinding whilst telling us so. Please. In answer to your final question, it's out there and coming closer. After the 29th, it'll be going away. :-) |

Well, I'm sorry for you Salathe if my post felt brutal, but I'm just tired of all the propaganda. And when I've got something to say, I just say it, I'm not a robot to stop and censor myself just because some other people think that I use obscene language, which is rude, bla bla bla. Remember, it's the idea that matters, not the scope or language used to express it.

I study Astronomy a lot and am very much interested in this subject for many years which includes using telescopes and i think it doesn't show a huge threat.
"Asteroids with diameters of 5-10m impact the Earth's atmosphere approximately once per year, with as much energy as atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, approximately 15 kilo tonnes of TNT. These ordinarily explode in the upper atmosphere, and most or all of the solids are vaporized.Objects of diameters of order 50 meters strike the Earth approximately once every thousand years, producing explosions comparable to the one observed at Tunguska in 1908.Asteroids with a diameter of one kilometer hit the Earth an average of twice every million year interval.Large collisions with five kilometer objects happen approximately once every ten million years." The thing i would say for people to be worried about is solar wind created by the sun when it has violent solar flares. They predicted in the next 10 years or so a huge one may be sent straight to earth causing billions of tones of charged particles to be sent into the earths atmosphere causing power plants to over load and causing power cuts all over the world. I would say there is more change of this happening then a asteroid any near earth object to hit the earth. |

Just like the other chunk of rock that flew by us a few years ago, I think that was larger than this. |
This has to be the billionth time I have heard about a death rock that will hit earth at [insert year here]. Its all hype. It used to be a fad to predict the earths death, now its just a few rambling idiots (Al Gore).

Glad to oblige. :-D I laugh at every doomsday prophesy so long as it has a date and a prediction of doom.
That said, I'll have to dig out my telescope. This sucker is going to pass close by, and I'm curious to see if I can see it. |

Even if it were to hit us, it's utterly pointless to even inform us about it, unless they want to general populating to go into a panic. Add to the fact that for a fairly large asteroid we'd something akin to an inter-planetary missile (non-existent as far as I know). So if it does infact come any day I invite you all to a nice game of poker and some drink so that we may spend the last hours of our lives in entertainment.
