Standardizing WHOIS format

Well, I've been working with WHOIS scripts for a while and thought that WHOIS formats should be standardized. Each registrar has power to edit its WHOIS format as the way they wants.

Your thoughts?

It would be nice if they were standardised, I do admit. They seem to invent their own formats based on the information that is available. Perhaps if they switch over to a human-readable data interchange format such as a sub-formatting of XML. Maybe WML for Whois Markup Language. On the websites they could then use XSLT to format the XML and apply style sheets to prettify it. That way there would be empty nodes where the data has been suppressed, but reading it via a script would become much easier. After all, that's where the Internet is going these days - sharing the information.
