Default Ruby proponents trying to big it up

I was browsing Digg, as you do from time-to-time, I can't say I like it all that much as the stories that reach the front page tend to be "10 best ways to do...", people Digg them and then forget how to introduce them in to their life. However, I came across a Digg article that stated the following:

Quote:
Ruby has overtaken JavaScript, and Lua is now above Cobol
Is this some kind of huge revelation? If I'm not mistaken, Javascript and Ruby are technically in 2 completely different leagues. Javascript is a client-side programming language whereas Ruby is a server-side language. I don't mean to piss on the parade or anything like that, as I know PHP also has major issues that need resolving, but this seems like the most absurd comparison. Especially if you're wanting to induce a little awe in your readers.

Unsurprisingly, Java remains at the top and PHP stays where it was put last year. See here for the statistics.

absurd comparison
i'd have to agree, the moronic people who posted that must have been on 'whacky backy' or something, as you pointed out Ruby is server side and javascript is client side, and as a matter of fact ruby uses javacript for some of its fancy effects (i.e. ajax) i believe it uses the prototype js lib (correct me if im wrong) so that adds another level to the stupidity of the comment. And as for the cobol-LUA statement, COBOL is a programming language and so is LUA but LUA is specificly designed to 'extend' exsisting programs like a computer game's modification language (World Of Warcraft for example) where as (to my knowledge COBOL isnt)

just to add somting, ruby its self is a programming language where as Ruby on Rails (RoR or just Rails) is the web based scripting ruby. Still doesnt change the fact that they are both very different (javascript and ruby).
That list needs to seperate languages into there specific catagorys as compairing a language like C to javascript is mad and totally invalid.
