How many of you use Prototype?

I'm sure many of you aware that Prototype is a Javascript framework. I was merely wondering how many people use it, and if not, why?

All the time. Protoype is my saviour! :)

Salathe 09-06-2007 01:35 PM

I've used it in the past, along with any number of other frameworks. However I keep repeatedly going back to Mootools. :)

Wildhoney 09-06-2007 01:44 PM

I'm somewhat put off by Mootools because of MooFX. I somehow think the 2 are related and I know how much of a mess MooFX is. Cannot beat Scriptalicious with Prototype, in my opinion!

Nope, I don't! A while ago when I started looking at it, it looked really hard and confusing so I kinda gave up my hopes on using it more... Since then I decided to use MooTools which amazing, not just for the affects but the inbuilt AJAX just can't be beaten... And the forum and IRC help :p

I'm a new addition to prototype.

I've never tryed much Javascript, i can manipulate scripts, but not much else. Is prototype really that easy?

OOP Style :)

Before I got into javascript, I thought it sounded pretty foreign. I've used c, c++, Java, vb, php, etc. I thought it was some sort of scripting language based off of Java. Boy, when I started getting into it, it was super easy, and not half bad. Once you get some dev utils for FireFox, such as firebug, you can easily see the DOM, and how it makes so much sense. Very easy to modify things using DHTML, and once you get a javascript framework like prototype and some add-on libraries like scriptaculous, you're in business. Prototype is simple, just give it a try.

Meh, I can never really be bothered to use prototype.

Wildhoney 09-19-2007 03:01 PM

Why ever not? Saves lots of precious time!

Well, really I'm just doing little things in js so there isn't really much time involved.
