I am new to PHP development and i want to buy a book. I have settled on
Learn PHP, MySQL and JavaScript by Robin Nixon but i'm feeling a bit apprehended because the book is (roughly) 3 years old.
Does PHP books get outdated?
Can i still use it now ?
I know nothing about mySQL and JavaScript though i can understand PHP a bit.

update: though i thought about buying this book, but after looking at the 2 star and 3 star reviews i'm doubtful. The worst thing is everybook is having something negative, saying it teaches bad practices and the advanced stuff is too little etc etc. What to do? which book to follow?

We all use different books, as we all learn in our own way.. There are some that can be recommended, but just get the ones you feel comeformatable with and find authors that write the way you need...

I haven't had a PHP book since PHP was in version 4, so I don't know much about the books out there, but I would suggest any book that teaches web development with PHP that way you also learn how to use PHP with other tools/languages/programs. And it probably won't hurt a book that uses at least version 5. There is always going to be bad reviews and good reviews, but I won't bother with books that have 2 stars.
