More Advanced PHP Programmer's wanted

I am starting a new project soon and I was wondering if some of the more advanced PHP programmers here on talkPHP would like to help me out, I'm going to be creating a forum system like phpBB and vBulletin I want them to be very powerful with features that phpBB and vBulletin both have. The system will be based mostly on classes such as a users class a topics class and a forum's class, ect. You get the point.

If anyone would like to join me please just post!

I have not a clue on what i'm going to call this system or anything so please help me come up with ideas.

I wasn't sure where to post this so I posted it in this forum if it is in the wrong place please move it!

What is your level of knowledge within this area?

What type of pay are you offering? A project of that size will probably take a team of five more than a year to complete and debug (assuming every programmer has a very universal range of expertise). Then there is continuing support and upgrades.

Also, why would you have a class for topics and forums? That functionality doesn't really sound generic. How much real world programming experience do you have, specifically as the project manager?

This is not a paid project this is just for developers to come together and build a forum system that can be shared with many users and be edited by many users.

My level of experience is alright I wouldn't call myself the best but I am surely not a newbie, I could do this project on my own but i'm sure that it would not be the best one that could be made and it would take a while that's why I would like the help of other advanced developers.

You have just lost 99.9% of all advanced programmers.

How long have you been programming?

It is an unwritten rule on most programming forums not to ask for free workers on your project. Everyone has their own dreams, a forum is a very very common one that dies quickly after the onset. I've been on programming forums for about five years now, I have never seen a single person actually piece together a project like this. Now if you have real plans and can show that you are serious about getting together an open source project, that is a different story.

A forum is a common project to want to do, but it rarely ever pans out because it is extremely complex. Most of the complexity comes from the magnitude, to make a forum that even comes close to matching vB would take over a year for a small team, tripple that if you are working in your free time. Good luck managing a team of more than five if you have no management experience. Even if it does work out you are then among the countless others fighting for your super small section of the forum market. Another obstacle is 3rd party extensions. PHPBB and vB have massive developer communities who make skins and addons, you will have none of this. Because of this programmers rarely care to join when someone comes around and says "lets build a forum that can do what vB can." Even more so when no real plan is being presented.

If you want a chance at any serious developers, you need to have a plan in place. Coming on without even having a name makes it look like you thought of this last night and will probably drop it the moment it becomes uninteresting (projects that large will become uninteresting around week 2). Come up with a name, a very specific purpose that includes why it will be better than PHPbb or vB, a plan to make it, a plan to market it and a plan to keep it going. This will show that you are serious and will see it though.

Thanks for the tips!

And I have been coding for about 4 1/2 years now and I have worked mostly with phpBB in that time.
