Google Chrome Extensions.

Has anyone tried making extensions for Google Chrome? I've made two (trivial) but it's really a streamlined processes, they decided to use (x)HTML4/5, JS, CSS for the languages supported.

How can you say that???

OMG Google Chrome is the best browser out there! It is still early days, but the potential is great! It will really become very powerful when there are lots of extensions available just like with FF.

I dont want to start a browser war, but what the f**k is going for any other browser??? IE...well we all know about that so it requires no more discussion. FF use to be great, the plugins are amazing, but now it is too slow and resource hungry and buggy as hell!!!

I have not done any google chrome extensions but I would love too! Can you send me a link with more details?

Sure, you can check out the Offical "Hello, World", or My First.

If you're looking for more help or have any questions on them feel free to ask.

I'm looking for ideas on extensions to make.

Opera was a slow bitch when it first came out if I do remember correctly.

I have done the hello world and I have built on this. However, I am stuck when it comes to saving the user's preferences. I have tried cookies but that does not work. Even after a lot of googling I am none the wiser.

Any ideas?

Unless you can find out a way to store things server side (you have to get the same "user id" every time) I would star this bug.

I use the nightly builds on my Linux system. And I carry it portably on my USB-pen, which I always carry in my keychain. Currently I only use AdSweep and Xmarks as extensions for Chrome (Chromium on Linux). :)

JaoudeStudios 09-17-2009 02:49 PM

What does AdSweep and Xmarks do? and would you recommend them?

Sirupsen 09-17-2009 04:07 PM

AdSweep is an effective adblocker. And Xmarks is syncronizing of bookmarks, which works on all the biggest browsers. :) The Chrome extension is rather new. (Alpha stage)

I recommend them both. :)

Ah I see they have not implement storing the user's preferences yet.

Which user id are you referring to? Is this a unique id to each browser install. Can I use this to keep track of each user's preferences server-side?

Thanks
