Note that CURDATE() will only return the date, e.g. 2009-06-10. Therefore, if you subtract 8 hours, the resultant date-time will be 2009-06-09 16:00:00 (8 hours before midnight on the 10th) and not 8 hours before the current time! Instead, use NOW() or CURRENT_TIMESTAMP in place of CURDATE()
