Default What should I do to extend my knowledge?

Greetings, good people!

I would say, without the purpose of boasting, that I know more about PHP than most people, though there is still a lot to learn. The problem is that I am completely out of ideas.

I really do want to make something; a website, a program or just anything that uses PHP, but I have no idea what to make. Spare time and access to computers is not a problem, neither is books or The Holy Internet.

So, does anyone have an idea or two to what I could attempt to create?

Yours, Runar

Oh, how I would love to open my book of ideas and let you point your finger to one, but unfortunately I would be sacrificed to the Gods by those lurking in the shadows (or those hiding behind an IP address).

Perhaps it is a cliché, but why not code a pretty advanced image uploading website? Or maybe something that communicates with an API, or scrapes content from a website? Those can be fairly complex.

I know about an online game that has several fansites accessing official information (like character names, character levels etc.), without the use of an official API. I could try to make an unofficial API, hosting it on my own servers? I doubt I would get the blessings of the game developers, though, so it would be quite a challenge.

I thank you for time, Sir!

You could even take a look at DOMDocument and perhaps create the API using that. It is a very useful set of PHP classes that makes it easier to scrape websites. And especially so if you use Zend Framework to create your API.
