Hi!

I'm just wondering, how many of you guys are actually making money from programming ??


The reason why I'm wondering, is because; I don't. And I've been doing PHP for quite a while now, most of you who have been on this site from when I joined, have seen my "journey" from a rookie to.. something better.

So do you think I've qualified enough to do jobs in PHP ?
And does anyone have a good website or a forum where you can find these freelance jobs ?

I personally don't freelance any more, but rather have many, many websites which make money. Most of these websites could only be created because of my expertise in programming. Such as grouping projects together under a single library, and that library then holds all the responsibility for acquiring data, and distributing it to the individual websites.

Perhaps the best place to pick up PHP jobs would be Sitepoint. I used to pick up quite a few PHP jobs there. I think you're more than capable of freelancing now!

try going on craigslist or something and set up a post and telling them that your going to school and are trying to make some money and that you create websites or web applications and show some examples

before you know it you'll have multi customers

Only you can assess if you are capable, the first few projects are always scary. Start with easier projects and do harder ones when you are confident and know what you can do (not to mention how fast you can do it).

Advertise your services, I got many times more clients coming to me than projects I found. Sarmen, never tell the client that you are young or in school (I would go as far as to tell teens to lie about their age), the two are suicide if you want to make real money. Such details are of no relevance and can only hurt you (and age is illegal to discriminate by).

If the project is too big for you to do because of school, just say "I won't have time to take this one on." Not "I have school." When you say that, people think of some idiot highschooler who they wouldn't even have mow their lawn.

From strictly PHP work I made upper three to mid four figures per job, I have continuous clients whom I charge less for so long as the majority of their scripting things go to me.

So far, i really dont make money out in coding php, but i tried maybe once or thrice when i just try to do some functions and a little debugging in their code :)

Yea, that's true. But the only way to gain experience, is by trying. And what better way is there, than to get paid for trying and practicing?

I make money:) Start a game I can sell you a script all you need is graphics domain and hosting. And I know someone who can hook you up with hosting. I can provide the script. I can give you a script that can make you all kinds of money. I just do not like the script because it is a mafia game and I do not like mafia games but I also have pimp scripts. I would play

Sitepoint and TF where the main places I went, sitepoint almost always turned up a project or two.

I've often checked SitePoint or Digital Point forums but don't expect decent pay at Digital Point, everyone there wants the cheapest they can get for a ton of work ). I don't really make money with it as of yet, though I have made a bit from certain projects I've been able to pick and choose from.

I have my weaknesses in coding and I have my strengths where I am very knowledgable, but I still consider myself in the learning process ( until I know it inside and out, I will never consider myself out of training ). Come to think of it, you never stop learning with computers, so I will always be in the learning process.

Anyways, you are probably ready, as long as you are confident in your ability and skills. Keep in mind to be honest with your clients and potential clients. If you are weak in one area make sure they know that and it might be better to pass on the job for their sake. Also be sure above all things you know security pretty well; there is probably nothing worse than creating an app for a client that is hacked 42 hours later ( aside from taking their money and not doing the job of coarse ).

If you find that you need help along the way or on a project, you've always got TalkPHP behind you :D

Before you venture into making money on coding, you should ask yourself a question: Do I have the time and will to code the script in time?

hehe, if your main reason to code is to have money, then time shouldn't be a problem :)

Coding can be time consuming. So it actually can be problem if your having personal problems.

In my side, i won't let problems affect me really. Though it really depends on different kinds of people how to cope up within themselves.
