You can view the source for the PHP language with and text editor, its written in C. However, there is no tool that will let you see the PHP code to a PHP script without having access to the file itself. Any text editor can open the PHP source file.

Adam embarks on a mission to find a text editor that for some peculiar reason doesn't open PHP files.

"It" lied to you. The PHP script is parsed on the server and an HTML output is sent to the browser, unless your MIME types are screwed up there is no way to steal the source to a PHP script. I am not new to PHP, programming, servers, or internet technologies. I know what I am talking about.

I'm sorry, but I honestly can't make that out into a coherent sentence.
