Session url parameters

I don't get the understanding of sessions in a url parameter, for example:

Code:

http://www.example.com/index.php?s=my_session_id

my_session_id would be the session hash..

I don't quite understand this.

you mean you don't understand why they choose to pass the hashed session id as a url parameter? or dont understand how this works?
