Url Vars... on images?

I don't understand this:
http://www.example.com/image.jpg?v=0

Why do you need ?v=0, why do you need any url vars in a jpg image?

Some jpg images are possibly dynamic, also you might use it if that image is updated often and you dont want a "cache" image to appear.

They might also mod_rewrite it to a script.
