Php Ide? :)

Well I started with notepad :P back in the day 06? Then I said thats gay lol and got notepad++ for my syntax editor, but then it started sucking. Then I found about Rapid PHP 2007 yesterday and whoo the short cut key features and all the addons helps so much. What PHP IDE do you use? I was looking into ScreenCast: PHPEdit 2.12 Overview also, and man I'm think I'm going to be flip flop with RapidPHP and PHPEdit. PHPEdit has a lot of neat features that I could use.

Been using UltraEdit for years, but now switched to NuSphere PhpEd.

If you have a big project I reccomend usig an IDE, but for normal use - any editor is good. Note - editor :D

I was just checking out PHPEdit's Code Beautifier, its nice. The sql stuff makes things easy its nice.

What? That doesnt make sense. I would revise the entire post.

My bad, updated.

Village Idiot 03-14-2008 05:23 PM

Much better.

What sucks about notepad++? Ive been using it for ages and its all I need. Ive never been much for fancy features though. PHPedits code beautifier is not a feature I like, I write clean code without help. Plus it doesnt go by my indentation style.

You can modify indentations. (Mines is set to 8 spaces per tab that I edited). Notepad++ isn't bad, but it isn't great. I like coding in a cleaner environment helps me manage code in a better manner where RapidPHP and PHPEdit comes into play. I never said I'd use "Code Beautifier", yet I did comment that it was nice. Notepad++ been there with me since day one ( since first version that was released) and the nice effects(text effects etc..) are good, but I wanted to try something new and these are some of the best in the market that I've came across.

When you do real work, you don't look at the IDE's design, but functionality. The look can be modified easily in almost all IDE's, but not the features ;-)

PHP Designer 2007 all the way baby!

Orc 03-14-2008 06:52 PM

Currently using notepad++

TlcAndres 03-14-2008 07:22 PM

PHP Designer 2008 and at Xenon, if I'm gonna be looking at a screen for hours developing I want at least something nice to look at.

Speciously, syntax. I hate Notepad, cause its bland, and I like colors. :P Not dull, black characters.

I'm mainly working on Linux (Fedora) now, so I'm using Kate (This is a default edit in KDE), it comes with syntax highlight and many nice features. I recently discovered the existence of KDevelop IDE for scripting language, so I'm starting to use this one :)

In Windows I used to use PHPDesigned.

Thats another reason :)

Honestly, all you need is notepad++ for the fancy tab stuff and the automated closing braces, everything else is just a fun toy.

I bet most people don't use 1/10 of the IDE's full capabilities. I myself only benefit from Code Assist, Syntax coloring, tab sync, WYSIWYG previews, tabbed interface, and automatic refactoring. I mostly blow the money just because I like to have shiny toys.

TlcAndres 03-14-2008 09:10 PM

I benefit from everything you stated and the auto debug features and the built in FTP the project manager the built in document etc. I use my entire IDE's range of features if not I wouldn't have bought it.

Whenever I ran the KDE environment, I always used the KDevelop is what I do believe it was. It was great actually. Looked good and worked very well.8-)

Oh... and I've used EditPlus 2 for the LONGEST time, simple text editing, not very resource intensive, syntax highlighting, etc... nothing fancy or anything, just the way i like it.

But came the day I wanted a few more features, but not too many, so I ended up with Notepad++ after some searching around, I've been using it for a bit now, but it seems way too bloated for my liking, too resource intensive =(

And the worse thing about it, on the tabs open at the top, I HATE arrows, making them scroll, I'd just rather the tabs get smaller (like EditPlus2) but not many Editors do that..

So I use EditPlus2 / NotePad++ in combination... looking for something better still though :(

phpDesigner 2008.

jvv 03-16-2008 02:52 AM

I'd recommend nusphere phped. I like it for its editor with folding (the best one), debugger and ease of use. I've tried out all, including PDT, ZS, phpedit, phpdesigner, jcx, and a few others. Neither works as robust as phped!
