im looking for a cheap host

hi,

whats a good inexpensive host for php/mysql

my budget is $20 per month or somethign close to it.

and this is what i need

my own php.ini
my own http.conf
my own htaccess

if my budget is too low, what are some hosts that you trust yourself or that is popular

thanks

SurpassHosting gives you your own php.ini, .htaccess, though I don't think they let you tamper with http.conf. For $60/year with excellent uptime and good support response times. Been with them just over a year now.

Apart from Rant, read about my positive experience with Webfaction.

Webfaction provides everything that you require. ^^

Try Lunarpages. $6.95 a month for a good package:
Basic Web Hosting Service | Lunarpages.com

Do not go with lunarpages, I am a former client and I can tell you they are awful. Slow servers and non-existent support (They don't even have a toll-free number)

I believe Dedicated Servers | Managed Dedicated Servers | Web Hosting | VPS | Liquid Web lets you do all that you mentioned

I am a client aswell, and they have been great! I don't know what your problem is. :/ And I also host websites aswell on there so.. :P

Ever tried contacting them for support?

Not really, considering everything has been working fine for over a year and half now. :P

Village Idiot 02-01-2008 04:24 AM

Then you dont know my problem with them. The three servers I was on where all bad, and support responses took upwards of eight hours per response. With Liquidweb, admin requests can be answered in 20min during peak hours.

DreamHost is very cheap and cheerful.

I'm with dreamhost, it's great if you don't have that many visitors and just want to play around. Got like 10 sites hosted there and support is great. It's also nice that you can install almost anything via SSH, and there are even manuals on the dreamhost wiki on how to do it.

But I'm looking for a cheap VPS at the moment for a bit more speedy development, does someone know a cheap and realiable vps hoster(I know cheap and reliable is almost impossible ;-) ). Thanks.

Haris 02-01-2008 05:00 PM

I guess Dreamhost can't satisfy everyone.

Whilst not the cheapest in the world, Secure PHP Hosting is run by Cal Evans (PHP developer, Zend Devzone editor, PHP book author) so is tailored as hosting for PHP developers :-)

Not sure if he offers what you require but it wouldn't hurt to ask, I'm sure they could tailor something for your needs.

Doh, what a fantastic advert that turned out to be then :-D

/me pokes Cal with his pointy stick

Don't forget that if you want to review any of the hosts that we've mentioned above, you can't go far wrong with a search at the Web Hosting Talk forum. More posts on webhosts there than you can shake a stick at :-)
