TalkPHP - Mod Rewrite question (vb related)

I was wondering if it would be easy enough to create a rewrite rule for the following:

I'd like to seperate some sections in the forums, and ideally I want the all of the user forums, member profiles, groups etc etc inside community.mydomain.com

However, I want to use some forum sections for articles, news etc and would like them in the root eg: mydomain.com

Would this be easy enough to do? Of course I would need some system to make sure the threads are not accessible by both means.

Any ideas on this? Or is there an easier way? (Perhaps using two installs pointing to one DB, one in the sub domain one in the root - and maybe use if conditions to decide which ones show where? Would need to pay attention to cookies etc tho).
