how do you benchmark your web server & applications

What do you use to benchmark your php apps and webserver?

I use the ab command (apache benchmark) to benchmark. And then run "top" on the webserver. Is there a better alternative?

So far, I've never worked on a web application where speed is a mission-critical factor so I generally only use a simple timer script to test classes and methods and any refactoring.

The Zend Framework actually has a built in profiler which I find fairly good. I know there are an abundance out there, but I've never been quite adventurous enough to depart from the Zend Framework's profiler. I'm quietly confident that they'll be many more out there that are far, far superior.
