Programs Similar To WAMP5?

Hey everyone,
I got a quick question for you guys. I currently use WAMP5 for installing PHP, Apache, MySQL onto my computer as a localhost. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to another program, similar to WAMP5. Or better yet, which do you use (if you use one at all)?

Wildhoney 12-11-2007 07:42 PM

I actually use WAMP5 and find it quite good, but there's apparently something similar called XAMPP. Though I don't know many details about that.

mike.fro 12-11-2007 07:43 PM

Yep, I have also heard of XAMPP, Personally I don't see a difference in either one, they all do the same thing. I was just curious as to who uses what.

I like WAMP5, it does just what I need it to, and works great with phpDesigner

I'm using WAMP with phpDesigner 2008 (long live my boss). XAMPP is a little bit for the more experienced since it has more tweakable options build in. WAMP on the other hand, offers the same options and verities only it's more of a background program. Click&Run.

Exact same setup i'm using, WAMP5 with phpDesigner 2008

I'm also using wamp5 at home (Windows XP SP2), and it never disappointed me in almost 2 years now. At work, on the other hand, I'm using a separately configured system (Kubuntu 7.10 with Apache2 + php5 + mysql5 + etc.) with Zend Neon (I used to use Eclipse PDT with multiple plugins, but I needed support for ZF, so I decided to make my life easier by using Zend Neon - which, btw, is built on top of Eclipse PDT).

I used to use a bit of kit called EasyPHP which had all the bells and wistles you prob get in WAMP (just an assumption). If you check out the site, be warned, it's not in English, but I think it has a translated version... haven't been on it in a while.

I don't use 'localhost' I just connect to my host via Dreamweaver CS3 and when I save a file, it uploads it.

Hah! I use WAMP5 and PHP Designer 2008 too :-D

How long have you guys been using PHPD? I've been using it since it was freeware ^^

I'm using XAMPP and I quite like it. Easy to use. :)

I use XAMPP too... very easy to use, and haven't had a prob with it yet.

I use the latest version of WAMP - WAMP2. :)

EasyPHP is a program I've used in the past a lot. Because of some PC glitches (XP) I installed Vista and because of the early beta-stage of EasyPHP I turned to WAMP5. I've got to say, EasyPHP is almost identical to XAMPP but I perfer WAMP. Easy access, advanced and for the beginner, it's perfect.

No argument there. I've used DreamWeaver in the past but I am GLAD I got rid of that stupified program. It used a cache and gets independent files from the server. WHICH I HATE. I've got files up to a wopping 200KB in raw text whichs it downloads from the server ENTIRELY, even when I don't need it. Thats the main reason I unisntalled it and looked my boss kindly in the eyes and DEMANDED phpDesigner 2008. :-P

Next to that, I would like to know what Kubuntu is? Never heard of it.

Another one with good taste hehe.
I'm using it for over 2 to 3 weeks now. I got so freaking bored and furious with DreamWeaver ... ah well, read my reaction above. :)

Kubuntu is a distribution of Linux, Debian-based, derived from Ubuntu, running KDE: http://www.ubuntu.com/

How about trying another Webserver ?

Hi there!

I Would like to give you all a tip about a very nice and easy to setup webserver i use whenever i like to have a webserver at home.

The Server is called "Abyss Webserver" from the company Aprelium.
http://www.aprelium.com

They got a Free version and a Not-free version.

The best thing is, the Free version has enough stuff for home use or eaven a little more advanced appliactions, i guess your imagination is the limit.

Did i mention it runs PHP, ASP, And whatnot...

Give it a try. :D

Cheers to you all.
