How much programming experience do you have?
 

Just for giggles, how much experience do you have in general?

I'm in my third year of College as a Computer Programmer Analyst and will probably go for a fourth year to get my bachelors in CS. My main experience has come from PHP (maybe up to a years worth).

I've been programming (of sorts) since around 1997 (maybe even earlier) -- I started out by writing code for the Commodore 64 hehe. I've had precious little formal training other than taking Computer Science related courses in school and for a year at university (my degree isn't computer-related) but by far the most of my experience has come from unguided learning on my own. Web languages in particular have always sparked my interest so that's where I've been concentrating.

I've got about 2 years of professional experience under my belt. I've been working primarily under the hood of small to medium websites.

Been coding for fun since about 1984 (small utilties and games for Commodore 64, and Atari ST), professionally since 1995.

Started off doing C, and Java, mostly doing PHP and Rails now.

Karl actually started me programming in and around 2005ish. I was never much of a programmer at all, to be honest! I only got my first PC when I was 14-15, before then I was a right little wild-child, although I used to love sketching a lot. Quite a good drawer if I might say so myself and it all comes from the imagination.

I began with PERL actually. Karl began teaching me PHP but I couldn't get my poor non-programming head around it, so I switched to PERL and created my own little applications in there. That helped me understand all the logic. I was then able to port that over to PHP with the help of Karl, which gave me a lot of reading to do on how to do things in PHP that I did in PERL. I think one of the first applications I did was a code paster.

Little to no experience. I'm taking a C# Course in January and a Web Development Course in February(which covers Javascript, PHP and other web languages) so I should have decent experience once I've finished the two courses.

I've been focusing on PHP and Java at the minute, developing small applications and other useless stuff that no one cares about :-P

I started out in 98/99 writing a modificiation for the game Half-Life. I knew sod all back then, I just went to the local PC World and forked out ~£80 for Microsoft Visual C++. I played around with that for a year or two getting used to programming. I could have sped this time up had I bothered to pick up a book, but I was young and too lazy to read.

When I hit 17/18 the amount of time I put into programming seriously got reduced, I was too busy working, drinking and having fun. This continued untill I was about 20/21 when I decided it was time to take my programming hobby seriously.

I first did a year in College to get myself back into education then I spent 3 years in Uni where I got my first class Software Development Degree :)

I then left Uni (about the same time Adam left his web-dev job) and we decided to get together and try to make something of our skills. So here I am now :)

I began programming 4 months ago. Thanks to Karl and WildHoney, I've learned quite a lot. I began with PHP and is still using PHP although, I'm looking forward to learn Ruby.

I started programming when i was 13 working on modifications for random games doing programming as well as 3D animating. I did 3 years at college doing software development and now at Uni doing Artificial intelligence and Software Development

I myself started programming when I was about 15 or 16 years old. A little bit here and there. First start out with GeoCities with a very basic HTML editor and that really spiked my interest. When I turned 16 I literaly started developing an interest in PHP and ASP. I dropped ASP being it to unpopular at that time. So, I started with some easy if/else loops and from there on out, I've gone further until I lost the 'spirit'. The fun to be exact. Now, one year ago (late 17) I picked it up and since then, still doing it.

Currently developing my own CMS system I may add. Project suReality. ;) Well, I am getting most of my knowledge from friends and the web. To be precise, this site for the most. Wildhoney and Salathe's scripts helped me on my way a lot.

I got about 3 years of programming. almost all from college but i know C++, Java, Python, Lisp, Scheme, Clips(shitty language), Prolog, Actionscript, and Coldfusion and im jumping on the php bandwagon now. I also know the basic web languages, CSS, XML...

All aboard the PHP bandwagon :-) It's guaranteed to be a bumpy ride, but we're adding hydraulic suspension one wheel at a time!

ActionScript as in Flash? I've done that for quite as while as well but still I prefer PHP. Tho the language is quite similar to be honest.

I've been doing web programming since about 2000. Mostly PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, Javascript, those languages/scripts. I haven't done much outside of web programming but I've done a little.

It's Been A While
 

I first started coding around 1998. I remember my first language was BASIC. I picked out a book from the library called "Building your first application: A Beginner's Guide To BASIC". After that I started to get more into the web development area, such as HTML, Java, Python, and of course PHP.

Man, it's been a while. :'-(

my firsts steps into programming where a good bunch of years ago with the first version of Dark basic an easy to use 2d game creation language based in BASIC. Im a creative/designer guy so that helped me a lot to understand the basics and logic of coding. At that time i got into a course of Visual Basic, but left it half the way because it was too slow and focused in business applications, while i as a kid only wanted to code so i could create my own games :-) . Some years later, at the age of 18, i started getting involved more seriously in web designing ( which i love ) and about an year ago, tired of using scripts without knowing how they actually work i (finally) made the jump and started learning php, mysql, and some javascript.

yup as in flash. I have made 3 pretty simple games and now me and 2 buddys gonna try to make some worthy of the large flash sites.

I've probably been programming for 5 years now. I've had about 2 - 3 years in the real world and 5 years in the fake world (college). I'm eventually going to get my BA in Computer Science. (I'm a 5th year senior, may be going on 6th :-P)

I actually started out by going to the local library and reading a C book. I used to make Tick tac Toe and simple Arena fighting style games.

I'm mainly now doing a lot of web-based programming, so my skills in jsp, php, java, javascript, etc have ramped up :)
