Whats happening ??

Just wondering if there are hosting issues, have had about a week of not being able to access the forums, as in server not being founs, now it's back can't access the Articles area...

If there's an issue with hosting please let me know I can make some arrangements.

It just goes down every once in a while. If Wildhoney gives a damn about this site he is doing a great job hiding it so I doubt it will be resolved any time soon. Hell, he hasn't logged in for well over a month and hasn't posted in about three months.

Talkphp - Message, about the downtime.

Wildhoney, is busy at the moment, that's why he hasn't been online.
But no worries, the moderators are working very hard to keep everything,
Running as smooth as possible.

We apologize for any inconvenience,
this may have caused.

And people sort it out quickly or custom should move !!!

But yes, hosting does go down for a few minutes every now and again... It was down for over a week though, that the only reason I said something...

Seriously, have you thought about a new host ?

I'm sure he is, but I'm loosing faith that he is going to come back at some time and start getting this site off the ground. I appreciate the staff's efforts but having been staff on an abandoned forum (talkfreelance.com) myself I know that can only do so much. I've been here myself, Salathe and I were basically alone in running talkfreelance until it was bought within an inch of crashing down. To this day I think we did a great job, but we could only do so much since it was not our site. All that kept Sal and I going was knowing that the site was going to be sold and the new owner would take initiative. What is the hopeful future for talkPHP (that was not rhetorical, I'm actually asking)?

Don't talk to me as if I don't know know anything about hosting by telling me how things work in the "real world." I've had better uptime on server I've paid $3 a month for. This site routinely goes down for hours, often for days (a week is the most I remember). Whoever we are hosted on clearly does not have a grip on uptime and we should switch.

ps. Use MS word for your posts, whatever you type your messages in causes unnecessary line breaks.

@Village Idiot
We are trying to get everything in order but as you said it's hard
when we are not in full control of everything but we at the talkphp staff
are still here we are trying are best to get some stability to this site.

Sidenote:
Also i apologise if i in anyway offended you with my comment about "in the real world".

You never answered my question, what is the vision for this site? Do you actually expect wildhoney to return and start running things?

codefreek 12-29-2010 05:37 PM

This should answer all of your questions.

Not all of us.

I check in on the site on average twice daily (except over the holidays), and generally leave disappointed after a quick perusal of the "new posts" listing, if there are any new posts made. As far as moderation is concerned very, very little happens… in the region of one or two spam bots per month or so to tidy up after. The moderators, at least myself, have nothing whatsoever to do with the upkeep of the server(s), services, or the site at all.

Looks like this site is running on a VPS or dedicated server. My guess is it isn't managed. If it was managed then it wouldn't be down for long periods of time.

Wildhoney needs to figure out what is bringing the server down and fix it or at least restart services/whole machine in a reasonable amount of time after it goes down.

Or switch to shared hosting and not have to worry about any of that.

Without him being involved or at least giving full control to everything (domain, server, etc) then this site is going to die.

that is great!!!

thank you
