Blah blah. There's a thread over there (*points*) if you want to talk about beer. There's a thread right here if you want to continue wondering where on earth Wildhoney went to and why this place has been left to rot; or to bitch about moderation. :)

I contacted WH a while back (a long while back, six months maybe) about his plans for TalkPHP and there was the token notion of having 'plans' but fact is nothing is getting done; by WH, nor by ourselves—are we all really just sitting here, twiddling our thumbs waiting for the next person to float along with a question?

I'm willing to bet he drank a rogue cup of extremely good coffee and he's taken off on a spiritual walkabout round some ancient mayan ruins. Seems to be what always happens to people in our line of work.

I think most people have just left because of the inactivity =/. Questions take days to get answered on here, but minutes to get answered on stack overflow. Why ask here?

Stack Overflow leaves me with an icky (technical term!) feeling, I just can't grow to like the place (sorry). There's such a rush to get the fastest answer, even if it's pretty darned crap, or if you can't then you pad out an answer with bold text, useful code snippets and links to authoritative sources (in bold of course) in an effort to steal someone's eye and elicit an up vote.

Here, when the going's good, you get a chat from folks interested in discussing the subject and not really in it for the points scoring or kudos. Here, we are cute and cuddly *cuddles delayedinsanity*.

It would be nice if more folks were around on both sides of the asking/answering fence. It does get quite lonesome at times!

So it's the digg or redit of code. Just a bunch of guys trying to be popular with as little substance as possible. Sounds like politics to me.

I can honestly say I have never visited a reddit page in my entire ... life. I have had the misfortune of clicking some twitter links that took me through a digg page, but other than having to rip a few people new holes for posting links that you have to click through three separate sites just to get to the actual article in question, I haven't had the misfortune of being too tangled up with that site either.
