Default [url] tag automatically grabs site title

Hello,

I am not sure if this has been discussed before, and if it has, then I apologize for bringing it up.

I recently found out that if you use the [url] tag the following way, will not produce a link to google.com titled http://google.com, which seems the most logic.
HTML Code:
[url]http://google.com[/url]
Instead, it will produce a link by grabbing the title of http://google.com. This may sound smart, but it may also be irritating, like if the site is using a very long title:

HTML Code:
http://i1.no/06ly/ or http://i1.no/06ly/
Will return, without any tags at all:

World's longest mile. Austrian Mile Nautical Mile Spanish Mile English Statute Mile Long mile. or World's longest abbreviation. NIIOMTPLABOPARMBETZHELBETRABSBOMONIMONKONOTDTEKHST ROMONT.

If I were to post a link to i.e. GoDaddy, it would for sure look like an advertisement:

Low cost domain names, domain transfers, web hosting, email accounts, and so much more.

Am I the only one finding this rather annoying?

Yours, Runar

How about just a check how long the header is, and if it's exceeding x amounts of characters, then just replace the ones exceeding, with 3 dots

Your link would then be:

World's longest abbreviation. NIIOM ...

Personally, I've never liked the auto-title fetching and always go through to the "Go Advanced" page which has the option to turn it off (quick reply doesn't). We'll see what Wildhoney can (or is willing to) do about it.

I never personally liked it either. I just did some quick research and saw it was vBSEO that gave us that horrible feature. Bravo vBSEO! Thankfully it can, and has, been disabled for good.

Thanks for reminding me to find out what was causing it.
