Default Paid Subscriptions?

I was wondering if you have thought about adding paid subscriptions? And perhaps offering subscriptions to regular article writers as a reward? (Say after a min number that admin decide). Or maybe even think about shared ad revenue for regular writers?

I'd really like to see TalkPHP succeed and grow to be one of the biggest and best php sites out there - you already have a massive advantage... the domain is very easy to remember and a very strong asset for the site.

Yep, the domain is great; I don't even have to bookmark it.

I would be glad to become an article writer if that happened >.>

I can only write beginner articles, though!

The big question is, what benifits would a paid subscription give?

I think you might be over-estimating how much revenue they get from ads - have you ever clicked on any? I haven't

Besides, you should be writing articles for the love of PHP! the love of your fellow man! or something like that anyway

If talkphp made people pay to see articles, I would stop contributing and delete all my written ones here. I see your logic, but its not a good idea.

I think he meant paid subsriptions as in pay a little cash and get some bonus extras - custom user titles, fancy name colours, access to a private "subscribers" forum, that sort of thing. Then giving regular article writers these paid subscriptions for free as a reward-type thing.

Well, I assumed that's what he meant anyway

Yeah, that's right Alan - I didn't mean pay-to-see articles - that would be suicide for this type of site.

The benefits I reckon would be a) helping talkphp (money = investment in talkphp = better site for us lot) and b) hopefully paying members threads may not get lost in the squillions of other threads so easily (as owners of talkphp, may try to keep an eye out for those members threads who are 'helping' talkphp a little more) that will encourage them to pay the next year and the year after and the year after etc etc. In turn those paying members due to the help they get are more likely to stick around and help the non-paying members, which should help towards making them like talkphp just as much and want to contribute to :D

With regards to ad clicks - they will be getting clicked, maybe not by us regulars but by people searching for something and getting here for the first time. The ad-revenue share was just an idea.... It's mostly an incentive to get more articles here > which will mean talkphp gets bigger and better than it would have been without those articles. Again it's an admin decision

Life is based on a reward scheme - we do something for the reward or response we get. Some of us do things to help others as that makes us feel good, some of us do things for money, some of use doing things because we are bored (and need to kill some time) some of us do things for acclaim etc etc

Just my thoughts :)

Used to know a women like that

On a serious note though, I agree with Brook - some sort of paid-for premium member package would be nice - I want my username in <h1></h1> tags and red with a litlle "Superstar Member!" banner under my name

If there was a Paid Subscription, I'd buy it, PHP is my number one language 4ever :P.

I should have named myself:
PHP4Ever >.<
