You're trying to get that exact sequence of characters from the HTML? If you know the literal string before hand, why even use regex?

PHP Code:
preg_match('/

(.*)
/iUs'$szHTML$aMatches);
print_r($aMatches);

PHP Code:
    preg_match('/.*(.*)

<table.*/iUs'$szHTML$aMatches);

var_dump(trim($aMatches[1]));
Updated version.

Remember that you can also use the function preg_quote to properly escape characters in a string for use in the matching. This can save you the time (and likelihood of making a typing mistake) needed to escape sometimes tricky patterns as above. Preg_quote really comes into its own when you've got to match an arbitrary string (set at runtime for example).
