Deciphering a Hierarchy, Is there is an easy way?

When something has already been devloped and it is open source.

I know there is usually a release of the hierarchy of the web platform.

Right now I can't figure out what the name of that is lol

I'm also intrigued to know if there is a fast way to recognise the flow of the site and break it down yourself?

I was looking a more generic logical way to do it.

Say for example, you start at index.php and look for a specific piece of code.

But if not what the name is for finding this kind of information for open source projects.

It will vary with each project, some have full web wiki's detailing every file and others have a .tar.gz for you to download and try.
