PHP IDE question
Hi folks. I'm very, very new to PHP, and as a matter of fact, I've been working on other projects so I've not been able to use PHP lately, I hate it because I really want to learn a lot about it. I'll get there though when time allows. Here's my question.
I've got PHP Admin and wamp server setup and it's working properly. I want to use Netbeans IDE. Does anyone else use it and what do you think of it? The price was right.. Free.. hehe.. I'm not going to be doing a lot of developing, but when I do, it's mostly for small database driven sites. I've not decided what database I want to use, but it looks like most are using mySQL. I have nothing against the same, but dont' know it like I do Microsoft SQL server and Access and SQL lite. I'm wondering if anyone knows where one can get SQL lite as the database on their web hosting? Thanks Tim |
It's a major discussion, and a frequent one, discussing editors. It all comes down to taste. On Windows I like to use Notepad++ and WAMP as my setup. On linux I use gEdit with a few tweaks to get it looking how I want.
Also, my hosting is linux, so anything I develop on my laptop (linux) I know will work when uploaded. If I develop on my desktop (windows) then I can't be too sure. I've never used anything else really as I found Notepad++ early on and got used to it. I like it for the reason it highlights loads of languages, so it's kind of a 1 editor fixes all problems sort of stuff. |
High Tower,
Thank you so much. It sounds like that's the way to go. When I first started with ASP I only used Notepad for God's sake.. hehe.. Then I used Microsofts first Visual Interdev and it was pretty good really, then they messed it up so I went to another editor. I wish they would have stayed with ASP instead of .Net, but they're wanting to be the next Java. I can see now that they're going to try to develop the .net Layer for Mac and Linux, etc, someday, then any dot net programmer would just be a Dot Net programmer no matter what the OS. I can't see how it would work, but I hear it will.. Thanks Tim |
I use Netbeans too, but I'm always looking for a better alternative. :) Mostly I'm waiting for Sublime Text to support FTP better, since it just looks so pwn! :D

I have netbeans and Eclipse.
|
For real developing (@work or @home): Eclipse
When I'm on tour (with EEE): VIM And for some quick dirty changes here and there: Notpad++ or GVIM under Windows - and VIM or Nano under Linux. Used to develop with Aptana an while ago. |
I use Netbeans for my IDE. Its tool tips are great and if you make a class within a project it picks that up also.

rGUY,
Thank you so much. I've not had the time to play with it lately, but it looks killer and the price is right.. hehe.. :) Thanks.. Tim |
I haven't done big projects yet, both with NetBeans and in general, so I can't say how nice it is personally for that, but from what i've read people like it. I always forget about the autocomplete stuff like if else.
