installation of php

i am on windows, and for a long time now i've been using wamp and now i have decided to do the manual installations.

i installed

php-5.2.5-win32-installer.msi
apache_2.2.8-win32-x86-openssl-0.9.8g.msi
mysql-essential-5.0.45-win32.msi

now when i go to view my localhost and i have a sample php page and when i run it. i am viewing my code as a text file for some reason the php is not running.

i have the apache service running.

what am i doing wrong.

Why did you take this route anyway? Why did you delete WAMP, and decide to do the 'hard' way? WAMP has all three of those.. I don't get some people v_v

Err, what job? You got WAMP instantly, and you can work with everything on it. Also, so you can understand it on Linux? Isn't it already configured in the linux distributions? I had it on kUbuntu and Debian.

Meh, nah.. I highly doubt it. Besides, I believe companies try the easiest route when doing PHP, or Perl, or whatever...

ok, i guess your right. im unintalling everything and installing wamp. thanks for knocking some sense into me lol.

No problem, I could not find anyway in actually manually installing it. Plus theres lampp for Linux also, and that also includes Perl, so.. People make it easier for others to work on in an Environment.
It has been that way for years..

This is all irrelevant now that you're going back to xampp/wampp but the fact that you saw a plain text version of the PHP script is a good start. That shows that Apache is up and running just fine! It appears that what you needed to do was configure Apache (in the httpd.conf file) so 'understand' how to deal with PHP pages. The details of which you won't be needing but are available in the installation documentation.

That's a good reason, but still, WAMP allows you to modify all that. :] I am sorry if I'm just directly to the easiest way, but no sense in setting all this setup for hours, when you could get WAMP/LAMPp/XAMPP and install the executable instantly.

To me, the only reason to install manually, is if the Executable gets exceptions. :P or whatever that be >.<

If your on a linux box .msi wont work because .msi is a windows installer format.
