Newbie in need of major help
I have taken on a job of building a website for a friend of mine. I thought it would be simple job but has grown into a bigger project than i thought. I am a novice designer who is trying to learn. The project was to rewrite and design the website Stag and Hen Weekend, Party Night Nottingham, Corporate Events Nottingham – Planet Red Events If you have a look you will see its a poor website so alot needed doing.
The part I am struggling with is the tailor made section. It is going to be split up into smaller sections, ive tried using the code already there but im not getting anywhere. I dont have any Php experience. The user basically goes through the instructions and selects a daytime event(s) then onto a new page, evening event(s)(new page, then the hotel (new page), then a quote is created then the user inputs their details so the quote can be sent onto the company. Any help would be very appreciated. Sorry for the bad explanations, just getting extremely fustrated with my attempts so far. Cheers |
Nottingham, eh? :-) Exactly where I live at the moment! As for helping out, you would need to learn all the basics of PHP and then learn what you need to make that work. I feel the best way to do this is to out-source it to someone who is at least able to put a bit of PHP code together - pay the PHP coder a little less than what you're getting for that segment from your client. From a practical point-of-view, and a monetary one, you're best off taking that route.

thanks for the reply,i had a horrible feeling someone was going to say that. Is it a big job to give to somebody, in terms of hours, how many do you think.
|
Ah yeh, no doubting there's definitely a good few hour's work there. I think any proficient coder would get that done in 6 hours at the most - although a specification would really make it clear. Less adept coders, probably take them a few days to a week, depending. It all really depends on the budget, to be fair. I would recommend a proficient coder than a guy who knows how to push some PHP code together, but it's entirely up to how much you want to make on that.

thanks, sorry for all the questions, but how much would you recomend charging? Ive got a few friends who may be able to do it.
|
No problems at all :-) ! Charge them by the hour. First get them to work out how many hours it will take them, and then hold them to that. If they go over, so be it, because the same would go if they overcharged - but that's up to you to ensure that doesn't happen.
Also get them to list some of their examples of previous work - and if you have any troubles in choosing, simply list them here with their proposed prices and time to complete, and we'll have ourselves a little vote. Don't just go for the cheapest - that is some key advice! |
